Which Arm Do I Start With? And Why Does It Matter?

You may or may not know this, but a few months ago, Maribel and I opened a small group personal training facility in Kingston, NY.

And in last month’s training program one of the exercises was a single arm dumbbell bench press.

When I was coaching one of my groups I noticed a member grab a heavy-ish dumbbell and bang out a solid set of 8 reps with her first arm, but was really struggling by her 4th rep on the second side.

Before their next set, we had a quick conversation about limb dominance, systemic fatigue and what to do about it in your training approach.
